Will the high profile "Avatar" movie which garnered a total of nine nominations sweep the bulk of the awards in the 82nd Annual Academy Awards this March? Will its director, James Cameron be honored with the "Best Director" award as a recognication of his work on this movie?

Yes, the countdown to the coveted Oscar Awards has begun and movie fans throughout the world will probably be glued to the "live" telecasts of the Academy Awards, which is scheduled for local time this March 8, 2010.

While we wait with bated breath for the ceremony next month, movie fans can participate in the Oscar hype and anticipation here via GSC's website "Oscar Winners Prediction" contest.

The contest, which kicked off Feb 8, offers over RM6,500 worth of prizes and only requires movie fans to log on to www.gsc.com.my and predict the winners of the following categories: "Best Picture", "Best Actor" and "Best Actress", "Best Director", "Best Supporting Actor", "Best Supporting Actress", Best Foreign Language Film", "Best Animated Feature Film", "Best Cinematography", and "Best Music (Original Score)".

As a tie-breaker, the participants need to creatively pen out an acceptance speech for "Best Actor or Best Actress" award, in less than 20 words. All entries has to be submitted online before Mar 7, 2010 (Malaysian time).

Prizes up for grabs include GSC movie vouchers, Star Movies backpack, USB web cameras, tote bags, O.P.I nail lacquers, O.P.I. vouchers, "Avatar" movie premiums, "Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen" movie premiums and more.

The excitement does not stop here as GSC will be screening some of the Oscar nominated movies from March 4 10 at selected GSC cinemas in Mid Valley Megamall, Pavilion KL and 1Utama (New Wing).

Look out for the latest releases like George Clooney's "Up In The Air" which has been nominated for "Best Picture", "Best Director", "Best Adapted Screenplay", "Best Actor" and "Best Supporting Actress" categories. "Up In The Air" also stars Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrik.

Not to be missed is Morgan Freeman's sterling portrayal of President Nelson Mandela in "Invictus" which will be screened exclusively in GSC Signature, GSC Mid Valley, GSC Pavilion KL and GSC 1 Utama (New Wing). "Nine", which was nominated for "Best Supporting Actress", "Best Art Direction", "Best Costume Design" and "Best Original Song" will also be screened during the Oscar Fever week.

These three movies will be sold at the normal tickets pricing while the "older" movies like "Avatar" ( 9 nominations, inclusive "Best Director" category), "Sherlock Holmes" (nominated for "Best Music - Original Score"), "Inglorious Basterd" (nominated for "Best Pictures"), "Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen" (nominated "Best Sound Editing") and animation movies "Up" and "The Princess & The Frog" will be priced at only RM5.00 each.
